Hot Rolled steel is heated at a very high level (over 1600°F) and is pressed into shapes. This is how hot rolled steel sheets are made, as well as hot rolled steel coils.

HRP&O

Hot rolled steel is generally used in parts where rust proofing is not critical. There are processes that allow hot rolled sheets to prevent rust as well. This process is called HRP&O - Hot rolled pickled and oiled.

Hot Rolled sheets have the most flexibility regarding how parts are welded together as well.

Hot Rolled Steel Coil

This is the most basic form of carbon steel. Steel becomes very moldable when heated at high temperatures, but is extremely strong and almost impossible to mold when at room temperature. It becomes completely unbendable after cooling. This is why there are many shapes to hot rolled steel products, and relatively few 
Cold Rolled Steel shapes.
